Library Renovation– Baan Luuk Rak, Khon Kaen
In 2009, our volunteers helped to construct an adobe library at the Baan Luuk Rak children’s home in Khon Kaen run by the Child Help Foundation. The BLR kids helped every step of the way with the construction and they love this building as something they created. It’s the most popular place to meet and relax in the evenings, especially in the rainy season.
However, in the years since it was completed, the weather (and the kids!) has taken a toll on the building, necessitating repairs and, most especially, a new roof.
Starting in January 2017, we:
-removed the old, wooden roof structure and built a new steel one
-made bricks and built the walls higher
-re-plastered and painted the entire building
-repaired furniture and broken windows
Continuing work includes:
-adding a ceiling
-adding additional electric lighting
-constructing a clear path to the building and bathrooms behind
-installing screens to mosquito-proof the building
This work is scheduled to be finished in January 2018.
