This work is scheduled to begin in January 2018.

Approximate Budget: $500 USD

Rainwater Catchment – Baan Luuk Rak children’s home, Khon Kaen

The staff and 40+ kids at Baan Luuk Rak use a lot of water.  To help them reduce their costs and dependence on the municipal water supply, we’ve decided to install guttering on some large roofs and water storage tanks.  The water collected in the rainy season will be used for washing, laundry, and watering plants throughout the year.

This work is scheduled to begin in January 2018.

Approximate Budget: $2000 USD

Kitchen Completion – Baan Luuk Rak children’s home, Khon Kaen

Baan Luuk Rak built their kitchen several years ago but it was never completed.  The DCF plans to complete wall construction, extend the roof, and install doors and windows that can help protect food from pests.

Budgeting and scheduling for this project are in process.  Check here for details.

Our Dream Project – Sustainable Education Center

We have years of experience working with disadvantaged youth, ranging from kids in poor countryside schools to orphans growing up in children’s homes.  Though Thailand has been developing steadily, some of these groups have been left behind – and the gap is widening.

Our dream is to open a Sustainable Education Center to provide training and educational support for children and youth who want to build brighter futures but are held back by their socioeconomic circumstances.  The center would ideally provide specific tutoring in crucial subjects for the modern job-market (hard sciences, computer science, mathematics, English language, and more).  For students who show great potential, we’d provide scholarships for continuing education.  Recipients would be encouraged to provide tutoring to younger students, helping them to reinforce what they know while helping others to learn.

At the same time, the center would double as a site for teaching what we already know how to do – sustainable construction and English and computer training powered by volunteer internships.

Over time, the DCF has been building connections with sponsors and partners to make this dream project a reality.  But there’s still a long way to go, and many commitments needed.
